•   A leader has to inspire and motivate the men he is leading to such an extent that they are ready to lay down their lives.

ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES OF A LEADER

• First an officer has to become a gentleman, which defines -

1. a honest man,
2. a man with a sense of duties and obligations of his position, whatever it may be,
3. a man who tells the truth,
4. a man who gives to others their due,
5. a man considerate to the weak,
6. a man who has the principles and stands by them,
7. a man who is not elated by good fortune and not too depressed by bad,
8. a man who is loyal,
9. a man who can be trusted

• The primary requirement for developing the full potential of a leader is for him to have a goal higher than himself. The higher the goal, the greater the degree of success in developing his potential. Thus the message in the credo of an officer reads as –

“THE SAFETY, HONOR AND WELFARE OF YOUR COUNTRY COME FIRST

 ALWAYS  AND EVERYTIME

THE HONOR, WELFARE AND COMFORT OF THE MEN YOU COMMAND

 COME  NEXT

   YOUR OWN EASE, COMFORT AND SAFETY COME LAST ALWAYS AND

 EVERY TIME”
