HOW THE PSYCHO TEST - THEMATIC APPERCEPTION TEST IS CONDUCTED AND HOW YOU WILL PERFORM THE TEST

 

12 hazy/unstructured pictures are shown in quick succession of 4 minutes, the 12th slide being a blank one. Each slide is held to view only half a minute. You have to write about 12/13 lines (80/90 words) in half page. You have to identify yourself in the picture as a Hero, giving a common name.

  • A candidate should be optimist and his thought be in a positive manner. There must be a healthy, confident and happy trend underlying the theme of story.  Negative/ pessimistic/defeatist approach/anti-social behavior/fear/guilt/inferiority complex/ tendency to give way under stress-strain-difficulty-danger should be avoided. Frame the theme of story around the scene, character, situation and environment.
  • The picture being represents the present, you have to go mentally back to the past as well to the future, forming a complete story, depicting your ambition/ interest/  imagination of the achievements on the theme – past, present & future. (Around 2/3 lines – past, 2/3 lines -  present, the balance lines on future achievements).
  • Although the story basically revolves round the scene you have witnessed in the picture, you have to imagine the past which led to the present scene.  You have also to think of the present and the future of the main character will have to be incorporated to make a complete story.
  • The first reaction of the candidate after seeking the picture should be objective, positive, constructive and purposeful.  Soon the candidate observes the picture on the screen, he should make a firm theme in his mind and write the story.
  • The aim of writing stories is to know your first reaction, approach, efforts, management ability, intelligence and your involvement to achieve the objects or the results in the short form and to the point.
  • The actions in the story should reflect your characteristic qualities.  The candidate is therefore, to ensure that the efforts, action, behavior and the talent shown in writing the story should match with your own ability and the traits of your personality.
