WAT

THE PROCEDURE OF WRITING PSYCHO TEST - WORD ASSOCIATION TEST

(The testing officer gives a sample word and answer to know – how you should write an answer.)

  • A word is shown to the shown in a projector/cardboard for 15 seconds and the candidate is required to write a sentence using the word, within that 15 seconds. 60 words are shown in succession without break.
  •  The objective of this test is to study the personality of a candidate through his ideas and associations with men and materials. The test does not mean ‘use of word’ in a sentence. It needs a logical positive response to a word.
  •  It is a test of imagination/personality for the candidate, to write down the first thought that comes to his mind on seeing the word, enabling the Psychologist to assess the personality of the candidate. He is only to say what the word reminds him of. He has only to show his mind’s association with the word.
  • The SSB is keen to know the association of the candidates with the words. They want to know about candidate’s first and natural reaction about the word.
  • Make it clear that whatever response you make, it should be meaningful, logical and should convey some sense.
  • The candidate is not required to define or describe the word. Write a meaningful sentence. It needs a logical positive response.  Write short and simple sentence.  Avoid negative / pessimistic & anti-social approach.
  • The page of the answer sheet has serial No. You have to write the reaction of every word along the same No of the page.
  • You can change the original word into its derivatives, i.e. verb/adjective/adverb ex: success – successfully - succeeded
  • If you cannot form a sentence within the time, at least write down the word. You can come back to it later and write the sentence, when you get a few seconds while writing on the other words, rather than write haphazardly a response which reveals a poor quality. A blank would only reveal that the candidate is slow in thinking or lacks imagination, but a bad response would point to a poor quality or weakness in one’s personality.
