Group Discussion

GTO TESTS : G D - HOW TO PRESENT YOURSELF IN GD FOR ULTIMATE SUCCESS IN THE SSB

  • Do not allow yourself to be excited.  Do not lose your temper. It will put you out of gear and derail you. Under such a state of mind, you will neither be able to plan your speech nor to put it across convincingly and effectively.

  • Do not antagonize and offend any member, even if you do not agree with his views or you consider it silly or irrelevant. Be ready to own your shortcomings.  Accept your criticism willingly.  Do not feel annoyed, angry or sulky if any member of the group finds a fault with or rejects your view point. Do not have any fear of the GTO.  Feel relaxed and natural as if you are discussing a point with your friends in a coffee-house. Do not feel shy, nervous, hesitant and embarrassed.

  • If you are getting chance other than first, concentrate on what the other candidate is saying. You also get plenty of new ideas at your own.  Blend them into your own ideas and then arrange them in a logical order.

  • In a group discussion, be active and evince a keen interest.  Try to appreciate other’s good points.  Your gestures must indicate your appreciation.  It would make your presence felt during the group discussion.

  • Each will listen to the arguments of others very carefully and attentively and make a mental note of these and in his turn, bring in fresh arguments.  One should not merely ditto others’ point of view saying that ‘I agree with the views of No so and so and finish with it. Avoid repetition and irrelevant material.
