Group Discussion
GROUP DISCUSSION IS AN IMPORTANT TEST, IF CORRECTLY FOLLOWED, WILL BRING SUCCESS IN GTO TEST
- One must show tremendous cool and determination. Every member of the group is expected to express his ideas/opinion or given a chance to speak. Candidates should not make deliberate attempts to catch the eye of the GTO.
- There must be logic and reasoning in your arguments. Otherwise you will not be able to convince others. Avoid self-contradictions. Do not be rigid in your views. Be considerate to the feelings/expressions of others. Be helpful, accommodative and give good encouragement to all.
- In a discussion on a controversial subject, you may choose any line of argument. You may speak ‘for’ or ‘against’ the topic. But stick to your like of argument throughout the course of discussion, that too in a positive manner.
- Be accurate in your statements. Do not try to bluff. Do not engage yourself in side or sub group conversations. If more than one individual is talking at the same time, politely request for order and appeal for cooperation. In such situations you must take the lead and do the co-ordination work.
- The aim is to encourage the candidates of a group to express their ideas/knowledge on a given subject at a short notice. It should enhance the interest and stimulate the thinking power of the group. It is not a debate. Each candidate should take a chance to express emphatically/ logically/ convincingly/ lucidly/ confidently/with bold presentation/ courage of conviction with his mastery/command of the subject, indirectly emerging as the leader of the group.
- The important factors are – knowledge of the subject/ power of expression/ liveliness/ confidence/ power of reasoning/ active participation
- Any candidate who possess initiative, tact and self-confidence grabs the opportunity to start the discussion and automatically assume the role of a leader. He further enjoys the spirit of cooperation/toleration, without causing unpleasantness/ listening patiently/having regard and respect for the opinion of others.
- Remember the ideas can rule the world only if they are effectively communicated. Speech is one of the most powerful means of communication. Weaknesses can be overcome, if the speech can put across intelligent and interesting ideas with enthusiasm and conviction.
