Group Planning

GROUP PLANNING EXERCISE : HOW YOU BEHAVE YOURSELF FOR ULTIMATE SUCCESS IN THE G P E

  • During the GPE Group Discussion, you are asked to  discuss the problem at length among yourself in 10 minutes and arrive at an agreed solution acceptable to all members and one will present the common group plan to the GTO. One can take max of 1/1½ minutes only for his turn of discussion.

  • The group plan should be unanimous.  If the group is not unanimous in deciding a solution, the plan acceptable to the majority of the group is to be presented as the group plan.

  • When the GTO asks the group to present a workable plan, you should avail of this opportunity.  If you had put forth constructive suggestions in formulation of group plan, you will be nominated by the group to present the group plan. If that happens, half the battle is won.

  • When presenting the group plan, be confident and logical and avoid fumbling, hesitation and nervousness.

  • Do not feel disheartened if you do not get the opportunity to present the group plan.

  • After the group plan has been thus presented, the GTO would allow other members of the group to offer their individual comments to modify or improve the plan. But it is not necessary to offer any amendments/improvements, when it is, right or wrong, accepted by the group.

  • Remember that each problem can have a number of solutions. But there will be only one solution which will be to the point and will be considered as the best one. Hence work out some practical plan. Often it is not the solution itself that matters, but it is the mode in which it is presented and accepted.

  • Speak boldly, slowly and deliberately.  You must be able to catch, arrest and hold the attention of the group when you speak. Be considerate to the feelings of others.  Do not be harsh in your criticism. Use a lost of tact.  If you must disagree, do it with a smile. If you are in the wrong, admit it quickly and cheerfully.  Do not be rigid or dogmatic but keep an open mind.
