SSB GTO TESTS : PROGRESSIVE GROUP TASK (PGT)

PROGRESSIVE GROUP TASK  (PGT) :  The main aim of the test is to assess candidates’ ability to tackle problems of practical nature in the group by using available materials. His planning, skill, ability to find out his sense to utilize men and material rightly and his attitude towards other members of the team is also assessed through this test.

  • This is a series of obstacles progressively made more and more difficult task. The aim is to test the candidates’ ability – to tackle problems of practical nature/to work in a team/of planning/of resourcefulness/of attitude towards others. The group is required work as a team with a spirit of cooperation.
  • There are more than one solutions of the problems in these obstacle exercises.  If the candidate uses his intelligence with a cool and sharp mind can find out the solution and lead ahead.
  • Listen carefully when the GTO explains certain requirements to be followed, the rules to be observed and the penalties for non-observance of any rule.
  • The candidates are required to cross the obstacles from Start line and reach Finish line within the given time, carrying a load (injured) with the support of a balli, rope and plank, observing the (1)  Out of Bound areas and color marks (red/yellow/blue/green) on the materials/structures, indicating the restrictions for use of men/materials (2) The Feet rule – that a candidate is not allowed to jump across of specified distance. (3) The time rule – in which the task is to be completed within a time frame (4) The Group rule – in which the entire Group is to move, as there is no specified leader.
  • The main technique to make out this test successful is that the movement the GTO ask to start the task, one should quickly make out his plan and lead the group with the help of materials. In case you cannot lead you should at least involve yourself in a natural manner. Remember you should not keep yourself at the last of the group.
  • Don’t indulge yourself in unnecessary discussion.  Remember it is not a time for talking but for action.
