SSB GTO TESTS - OUT DOOR GROUP TASKS : HOW TO BEHAVE YOURSELF TO ENSURE SELECTION BY GTO

  • In the Group Task there is no leader.  It is for you to become the leader and lead the group.  Your inner qualities of intelligence, confidence and dominating nature will prove you the leader of the group.

  • Remember that a group obstacle is not a one man show, here you have to work in a group with taking all the group members together therefore team spirit and co-operation are the qualities which help you to be a leader.

  • Do not insist that your ideas alone should be accepted.  Implement the ideas accepted by the group wholeheartedly.  Give encouragement to the weaker members in the group while they negotiate the obstacles. Wherever possible, also help them physically, supporting them, giving them a hand  and so on.

  • If your plan is not accepted by the group then don’t get disappointed or disheartened.  Give your full co-operation and support to the plan accepted by the group.

  • If the plan offered by someone else is to be executed, then volunteer to give your active and willing cooperation and help the leader actively at every step in the speedy execution of the plan.

  • Give your active help in lifting  the balli, tying the rope to a plank, lifting or carrying a load, jumping or swinging over an out of bound area. Do not just be a load carrier only.

  • Make serious attempts to executive your idea or plan.  If it does not work, repeat your attempt or try an alternative.  Do not waste time  in a state of indecision.

  • If you enter ‘the out of bound’ area or any of your materials touch or fall on an out of bound area, do not try to conceal it from the GTO.  Own it and take the penalty set on it without waiting for the GTO to tell you to do so.  Honesty and truthfulness are the hallmark of an officer’s personality.

  • If your group is held up in the task at any stage, this will be a golden chance for you to come forward with a logical, positive and constructive suggestion.  If your suggestion works well and the group gets through the problem, you are definitely on the advantage side.
