THE EXPECTATION OF A SSB TESTING OFFICER FROM A CANDIDATE

 

The SSB adopts a very interesting and simple mechanism to judge if the candidate is suitable for Armed Forces of Union of India. A  candidate should have a coordination in ,” what he thinks, what you say and what you do “ .

  1. What you think is judged during psychological testing by psychologist .
  2. What you say is judged during interview by IO or Interviewing officer.
  3. What you do is judged during GTO by Ground Task officer.

 

Now since all the 3 assessor ie IO, Psychologist and GTO are judging your personality there, they ought to have some predefine criteria . These criteria are called OLQ (officer like qualities). OLQ are mentioned by various people above. Remember all 3 assessor look for same 15 OLQ.

  • Effective Intelligence - Quick and practice solution to real life problem.(Don't tell them what you will do. Tell them how you will do it practically)
  • Reasoning Ability- Ability to make right choice by your own instincts and reason. (If you want to choose path B over path A, you should have a well defined and valid reason for your choice. Don't work in haste. As an officer your decision is a matter of life and death for your troops and yourself)
  • Power of Expression. - Ability to influence people in your group by giving Valid strong viewpoint. You must have absolute clarity of thought. You must be able to DELIVER what you think & your plan to your troops or group without any doubt.
  • Self Confidence. - Confidence to solve any problem with mind and physical strength. It is the key.
  • Determination. - To get your objective at any cost. Keep going till it's not met without any distractions.
  • Organizing Ability. - Ability to solve practical problem with whatever resources you have or you see at that moment
  • Initiative. - To be the first one to tackle any problem. Be the first to take responsibility without dominance in your group. Show them that you are willing to be the first one to face any problem and make it easier for rest of the group. (Eg. Climb the 9ft wall first and help other guys to climb it from top. Don't go further till everyone is on that damn wall).
  • Courage.- To tackle physical barriers. So Do those damn double ditch thing easily. Take pleasure in doing every individual obstacles. Show your courage. Even if you get little blood in doing any task , don't make it an issue. Keep doing it happily. Keep a smile for you are going to be a fauji and little things don't hurt you.
  • Cooperation. - Listen to your group mates. There are always better idea than yours. Do what is best for the group.
  • Sense of Responsibility. - Be responsible for your actions and your troops.
  • Stamina. - To carry on when your legs give up 2 minute ago!
  • Group Influencing Ability. - Show your group that you are valuable by giving good ideas.
  • Liveliness. - Keep up the smile and humor alive in doing all tasks. Be cheerful ! Motivate your group.  Keep it going in a fun way. Don't take too much of stress.
  • Social Adaptability. - To make good friend at SSB and gel up with the group mates. You will find different people across country in SSB. You must be able to Fit in.
  • Speed of Decision - To make quick decision. Even if you think it involves risk.
