A TAT story is expected to have 3 components written IN ORDER:
• What led to the situation shown in the picture (which implies the situation shown in the picture should be captured in the story at the earliest in max two lines & the single central theme should start emerging clearly; quite commonly, candidates arrive at the shown scene somewhere in the middle or later part of their story) — 2–3% portion of the story.
• What is going on (theme has to evolve fully here followed by very specific actions that are coherent around the chosen theme; feelings of the hero/heroine are to be included; vocabulary plays vital role here) — 95% portion of the story.
• What is the final outcome (story is to be wrapped in this part; it is here majority of the candidates go astray by adding unnecessary inputs which adds another theme in addition to the theme chosen in first two components) — 2–3% portion of the story.
