Individual Obstacles
FEW TECHNIQUES TO PERFORM GTO INDIVIDUAL OBSTACLES TO GET RECOMMENDED IN THE SSB
INDIVIDUAL OBSTACLES - There are a total of 10 obstacles in order of difficulty. Each obstacle carry marks as No 1 obstacle with 1 mark and so on. A candidate need not necessarily proceed in the arithmetical or serial order of the obstacles. He can attempt any obstacle and can proceed in any order that he likes. He however, cannot change the manner in which each obstacles is to be tackled.
- These are to be done by a candidate within 3 minutes. A person of normal physique can complete all the obstacles within 3 minutes easily.
- The aim is to test the candidates’ agility/physical toughness/boldness/courage/ determination/confidence/will power and his ability to cross common hindrances and obstacles which the soldiers have to cross in battle field. But it is wrong to think that this test is entirely a physical phenomenon. Along with the physical fitness the candidate’s method of crossing these obstacles in a logical and systematic way, his planning, his intelligence, his mental alertness and tact are also judged by the GTO.
- It is advisable that all the obstacles may be done in an organized way. These should never be done in a haphazard way. All the obstacles have been designed in such way that a man of average physique can do easily.
- Hence the candidates are advised to do the obstacles in a logical & systematic way, courageously, correctly, at one go and with the confidence, rather than showing hurry to repeat the obstacles. The candidate can repeat if he gets time after doing all the obstacles.
- While performing the obstacles, do not show any hesitation, but feel/show like doing at very ease with confidence. Don’t leave any obstacle incomplete unless you are convinced that you cannot do it. If you fail in an attempt, do not lose heart. Make another attempt. Still you can not do it successfully, no worry – proceed ahead. Time factor must always be kept in the mind.
- Before appearing for the SSB, the candidates must practice running and do physical exercise to build up stamina, so that they do not feel tired while attempting obstacles. Don’t show the sign of nervousness or lack of courage. Do all the obstacles with a blooming face. Show zeal, vigor and enthusiasm while you are engaged in tackling the obstacles.
- The obstacles are : 1. jumping barbed wire barrel of 5 feet/ 2. balance walking over a zigzag beam/ 3. jumping over a Screen/ 4. from 10 feet height, jump, catch/hold the rope & down/ 5. from 10 feet height, Tarzan swing/ 6. cross confidence bridge of 10 feet height/ 7. crossing 2 ditches – one (9feet) with the rope hanging in the middle and the other (4 feet) by jumping/ 8.Monkey jump – 2 jumps one platform of 10 feet, another of 5 feet / 9. Burma bridge crossing/ 10. Platform of height 4 feet simple jumping
