I’m Sampath Kumar got recommended for the Indian Airforce. I would like to share my views on 
how training from Shankar’s SSB academy helped me in getting recommended in the IAF. My first SSB 
interview was in Bangalore for Indian Army in which I got conference out , then I realized that I am 
lagging some OLQs and I was unable to rectify that. That is when the idea of coaching came into my 
mind and I decided to join Shankar’s SSB academy. The coaching really helped me to asses myself and 
how to tackle every aspect of SSB interview process. We were not taught to cheat the process instead 
the training inculcated those qualities in ourself.I will explain in the following paragraphs how it helped

Screening day 

The Screening OIR test was easy as it consisted of aptitude questions and anyone good in 
average in aptitude could get marks. We were given many practice tests and that answers came after 
seeing questions within seconds as we were made familiar with almost all models of questions. After 
this much practice anyone could get more than 90 out of 100. The OIR test was followed by Picture 
perception and description test. A hazy picture was shown for 30 seconds and we were asked to derive a 
story out of it. After seeing the picture I got a story within ten seconds as we were made to think in the 
way of how an officer would think and I weaved a completely positive story out of a negative picture. 
Then discussion started after individual narration. It was like fish market and everyone started to argue 
that their story is best. As my story was totally positive my story was nominated as the common story of 
the group after discussion. Then after an hour the results were announced and 74 candidates got 
screened in out of 284 and I was screened in. 

Psychology day 

The psych day started with Thematic appreciation test where we were asked to write a story 
after seeing pictures similar to PPDT. The only difference in we don’t have to mention the character’s 
age, mood and gender. This went smooth as I have been taught how to think after seeing different 
situations in the picture. I could see the difference in my stories compared to my stories in my previous 
SSB. It was of good standard. The same happened in Word association test and sentences came out 
form subconscious mind automatically within seconds. This was followed by Situation reaction test 
which had 60 questions where we have to write our responses to various mentioned situations. This was 
also made easy and I attended 20 questions more than my previous SSB performance and I could see 
the difference myself in the quantity and quality of my answers. The last test was self description where 
we have to write about ourself. 

Group Tasks 

The GT day started with two group discussions of common social topics followed by group 
planning. Coaching has helped me to interpret the problems in the given situation easily compared to 
my previous SSB and I came out with the good possible solution to the given situation. This was followed 
by a group discussion and a common plan was derived out. This was followed by Progressive group task 
Half group task , Snake race and lecture and the day was called off. We had command task and 
individual task and full group task on the next day. 

Personal Interview 

I had my personal interview in the fourth day and it went smooth as I didn’t bluff and didn’t get 
caught anywhere by giving false answers. We were taught to answer in this way and it helped a lot in 
personal interview. Questions in my stream of engineering and questions about jet planes were asked 
other than my personal life. After the coaching I was knew what I am facing and I came to know where I 
am lagging. That helped me to tackle the interview questions.

Conference day 

We had our conference on the last day and 9 candidates out of 74 candidates were 
recommended. I felt really happy for taking coaching or else I would have committed the same mistakes 
I have done in my previous SSB.
